Review on 🐠 Fluval E300 Electronic Heater - 300W Advanced Aquarium Heater for Tanks up to 100 Gallons (A774) by Sabrina Geppert

Really terrible! Only heats up when installed horizontally. Buy Aqueon Pro instead.

Fluval: tested on THREE different devices. GARBAGE. Does not heat up in a vertical position even with a large water flow. Out of desperation I bought Aqueon Pro. Ideally, it heats up within 4 hours. Update: Conducted a controlled experiment with both brands of heaters: Aqueon Pro: Recommended horizontal placement for better heating. works perfectly. Set up vertically (same position as Fluval) it also heats up super. Fluval: As mentioned, it doesn't heat up properly when held upright. Tested with a kill-a-watt meter, only heats up 20% of the time, otherwise it's "off" and "resting". For the experiment, I installed Fluval horizontally. It works great when installed horizontally (so the heater doesn't turn off 80% of the time). Tested on 2 units in 2 pools with no water flow. The manual specifically says not to mount horizontally, but that's the only orientation that works. Some cons of the Fluval design: The plastic case prevents good water flow and heat conduction. The heat rises and overheats the sensitive electronics, so they programmed an 80% "pause" as the stopping gap to keep the electronics from overheating. They then scold you for "low flow" design flaws. However, I like the precise temperature setting and the snazzy digital display. Now that I figured out how to get them working, I'm going to enjoy my side-mounted Fluvals.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • I don't really like anything, everything is fine
