Okay, I know how the nitrogen cycle works, but it makes it very difficult to know how your cycle is progressing. I've been trying to loop the tank for over a month but it didn't show anything. I keep reading 0.5ppm ammonia, 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate on a handful of fish (I used Prime to keep the fish healthy, don't worry). So I decided to help the circuit and buy a bottle of this stuff. 24 hours after retesting 0.5ppm ammonia, 0 nitrite and 5ppm nitrate the first time I thought it was too fast to have nitrate and made no sense that I still had 0 nitrite. Tested after day 2 of dosing. almost the same 0.5 ppm, 0 nitrite and maybe 7 or 8 ppm nitrate. It still didn't make sense. Can't get nitrate without nitrite and have never registered the slightest amount of nitrite in my tank since day one. So I figured the nitrates must have come from the Fluval bottle. I took about 10 drops and mixed them with about 50ml of fresh tap water, which I checked first and didn't contain nitrates. When I tested this mix, the nitrate test went through the roof in just 30 seconds. So my nitrate levels in my aquarium are actually related to the addition of this material. This makes it difficult to track my cycle when adding nitrates to the tank.
