Review on Lucky You Wellness & Relaxation by Jenna Davis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

great vacation read

I ended up in Hiaasen after reading an article in the New Yorker about Florida detective stories. The article focuses on Hiasen's work and at one point compares his style to Tom Wolfe's Miami novel Back to Blood. there is a stylistic similarity - both are social satirists, both see the world through glass, bleak. However, Hiaasen is not the Blacksmith Wolf is, and his intentions are not aligned. I've always believed that Wolf works best as a social critic. He tends not to delve deeply into his characters' psyches, but rather into the environment in which they live. To me, Hiasen's main goal is to entertain, and he does that to the utmost degree. Lucky You is full of offbeat characters and situations. I had a lot of giggling and a little stomach laughing while reading. It's a good read if you need a break (for me it's a two day reading break before starting Volume 3 of Foote's Civil War Narrative) or just want an entertaining read. My second Hayasen and I will definitely be reading more.
