Right out of the box I was able to strip this wire with a thick plastic shield. All I did was attach it to the edge of my trailer to hold it and run a wire through it. Of course I had to play with the settings, and for that stiff cable I had to slow down a bit and back out at times because that cable wanted to twist when you ran 40-foot lengths in a row (better if shorter, of course), BUT A LOT BETTER THAN TRYING THE OLE RAZOR KNIFE! Note. I haven't tried it with less than 10 gauge wire, just larger materials, and it works fine with thin wire, but if you're trying to cut rubber and cardboard at the same time, you're too deep and you've done it Pieces of copper scattered everywhere.
