Among the better choices, but plastic feet?

This stove replaced an inefficient, poorly designed New Buck wood burning stove, in the very large dining room of our drafty old farm house. 14 truckloads of inefficiently burned firewood per season, compared to under 100 bucks in our coldest month.More importantly, the warmth is consistent. Reliable. Not dependent upon me waking up three times a night. Clean. Comfortable.Oh, yeah, back to this specific stove.Plastic legs. How stup!d was that? It makes lighting or adjusting while freestanding a jiggly experience, and looks really cheap. The included fan does help to moderate the temperature internally, but moves too little air to even notice while standing right there. You need really good air movement (e.g. a box fan, ceiling fan) to distribute the heat evenly, although it will still work w/o power. As these types of stoves go? This is one of the better ones I've found, and the flat black makes it blend in almost completely. I blacked out cement board over the opening, and tucked brass log dogs close to each side, which looks almost the same as it did.The blue flame clearly burn most efficiently, as we only notice even the slightest odor as we return after leaving it up high, or when kicking it up or on. The very sensitive and accurate CO detector registers 0/ppm.Carbon Monoxide detectors are a must, as are LIVE GAS detectors: You can ONLY smell gas if you are awake, so leaks while you are sleeping will otherwise be a likely tragedy. We replaced the included connector and valve with much higher quality, which adds about twenty bucks, but makes it safer. Please, folks. do not cut corners! These stoves last a long time, and pay for themselves very quickly; typically within their first month, for most switching fuels.

Pros
  • Heats up garage very nicely, had plumber run the gas line to the new location. Mounting was very easy.
Cons
  • The black finish may show dust and grime easily
