You'd better order some spares if you ever need to flush an American Standard toilet (

Upgrade) If you need to flush an American Standard toilet, you'll probably want to buy a few of these as spares. Some idiot designed this thing out of plastic. A piece of plastic is absolutely no good in this application. I wrote American Standard (so is Eljer and almost every other toilet manufacturer in this country). They said I should have bought it from a plumber not a home center. The models they sell through installers have a flush metal handle. They said they couldn't afford to put them on the toilets they sell at the home center so they would keep breaking. These guys are really great. Last time I bought a metal replacement part from Revain but haven't installed it yet so not sure if it will work in my toilet tank: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015BX91A/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_titleLast After After replacing the handle, I lowered the water level a bit (adjusted the float linkage). A crappy plastic handle will last longer if it doesn't have to lift the valve too far (requires less weight to lift). Now the toilet doesn't flush as well, but the handle lasts longer. The air conditioner maker also uses the American Standard name, but the companies are not related. Looks like the American Standard name really is in the closet.
