Review on Wsky LED Camping Lanterns: Bright, Portable, Waterproof And Battery-Powered by William Nunes

Brighter and brighter…

I really like these camping lanterns. This is the third one that I received from the Vine program. All are similar in appearance and design. With each passing year, the lumens (the brightness) are increased. I do believe that one can tell the difference, but for most of us, 1000 lumens, or 3000 lumens should be sufficient for our needs. The Vine Program provided me a very similar lantern to this one which was made by Consciot and has been a faithful companion at the campsites that are now even more popular in the Time of COVID. Three years of excellent service. It is rated at 1000 lumens. Two years ago, I received one made by Yunyao. It is rated at 2200 lumens.Concerning all three lanterns, I can say the following:Nothing is unbreakable, but the hard compact design means considerable effort would have to be expended (or an unlucky freak accident) to break this. Even the translucent shield around the light appears to be VERY tough. The push button is red when it is being recharged, and then turns green when it is fully charged. Likewise, when it is turned on, the button is green, but then will turn red when the power is low.Like nothing being unbreakable, nothing is really "waterproof” either. But the manufacturer did a very good job of making this lantern "water resistant,” with a well-designed cover to protect the charging ports. It is possible to charge one’s phone off the lantern, but it is unlikely I will ever have to, since the Vine Program has generously provided me a number of battery charging packs. There is a well-designed handle for carrying it upright, that snaps into place around the light, when not in use; there is also a built-in handle on the bottom, the lantern can be inverted, for example, hung from the tent ceiling at night for reading. All three come with USB charging cables. The Yunyao is slightly cheaper at $26. The Consciot is $28, one of the few things that has gone down, in these inflationary times, from the $30 it cost two years ago when I reviewed it.In these inflationary times, the Wsky, the brightest lantern, is $33, and thus good value for the money. 5-stars.
