Excellent, precise plate surface. "Certification" doesn't matter, but the product lives up to its claimed accuracy. Used for amateurs and from time to time for hiring a machinist. It has a few teardrop-like inclusions in the granite that don't affect accuracy but affect visual consistency, like lumps in the semolina. If that's important to you, be sure to pick up a Starrett Pink granite slab - wish I had it, I wanted to spend the money on it. For me it works great and does what I need. It's hard to believe that they can charge for what they do and still deliver it for free. While I appreciate the low price, I hope the people who make them don't work in conditions that lead to silicosis. I want to be sure.
