I'm a geologist and I spent the summer working in Alaska, most of the times I wore this, it was early morning, or all day every day during fog days. One day our boss decided we were going on a field trip to see a serpentenized ophiolite complex with listwaynites, and then were going to spend a half day in the field. No rain in the forecast, clear skies, hot even. I decided to leave my gortex coat at camp, and take the rain slicker, light puffy jacket, puffy vest, and this sweater and the matching long choners. hehehehe. oh Taiger. This sweater kept me from becoming hypothermic when we were out collecting soil samples in Alaska and were hit by a cold summer rainstorm with a steady and soaking rain that lasted 2.5 hours. My rain slicker failed that and the sleeves of my puffy became soaked. I quickly changed out of the wet puffy into the wool sweater and puffy vest, and while I was not comfortable, I was warm and able to continue working. That was the day I learned, always carry the gortex jacket, even if it's heavy and it's only 3.5 hours of field work. Tis better to have it and not need it, than to need it and have to work through a rainstorm without it.
