Unpacking and assembling - leaves a lot to be desired. The base is a thin, cheaply molded plastic cover over the load. There are little "tabs" that snap in to hold it in place - one of mine was broken. But he's staying, so I'm not losing sleep over him. The assembly of the hood is annoying. You will need to take the rear fairing and mount it onto the fan motor and screw a bracket onto it to hold it in place. But there's a big plastic handle in the way that's only mentioned after you've secured the fan. I wish they had mentioned in this step if you need to remove it and that it has OPPOSITE currents from normal so you have to "tighten" to remove it. And the way the front and back of the covers fit together is a little annoying, but once you've placed, snapped, and screwed them in place, you're good to go. I have this for one reason - Alexa integration. I had a nice big fan on a stand where it would fit, with a remote, but I had to get up and walk a lot to get the remote at the right angle. I have it on the landing, it's 2/3 up my stairs from the basement. All summer I kept my energy bills and air conditioning needs very low thanks to a powerful basement fan that blows natural cool air up the stairs. I then have this fan on a stand to "spin" it to the end of the large room. And it worked great, 90's outside and just that, no AC, my temp was 76 or 75. The big difference is I had to pay the electric company. The one in the basement has a smart outlet that I control with an app or Voice over Alexa, so I wanted the same functionality here. I already use the smart home app for other switches and sockets, so that was a breeze. I plugged it in, didn't even turn it on, saw a flashing light, opened the smart home app and it was recognized immediately. I was gone and running. Manual control via the app gives me a nice fan graphic showing it spinning. You can turn it on and off and adjust the speed. But that's exactly what kickers me - the thing is silent. When I first asked Alexa to turn it on, I was about 12 feet away, in line of sight, and I couldn't tell if it was on or not, it was so quiet. The other moved more air but was MUCH louder. This one moves enough for what I need and it's almost silent. I hear the fan BEHIND at the bottom of the stairs, not this one. Hope it continues to work just as well.
