The mechanism of this pen is pretty cool. The bolt action design is easy to work and easy to fix if it should malfunction. Brass shell is heavy. It a tusll made my hand sore for a few days getting used to the weight. Also, if you happen to drop the pen, it most always will compress the ball bearing in the tip of the ink stick, which will cause the ink to not be able to come out, effectively making the pen unable to write. At $3 per ink cartridge, dropping this pen can get expensive.Pros-The pen looks cool. I have gotten many compliments on it-The ink sticks write very well, due to the weight of the brass pushing down on the ball bearing. Ink flows more freely.-The bolt action design is simple and easy to investigate and see where the problem might be if it jams up or is difficult to work.-The machining of the tip of the pen is very well done, especially for a soft metal like brass. I honestly could not see the separation line between the two pieces at first. Very good precision that means it won't have a lip or burr that digs into you your fingers when writing.Cons-The brass has an odor that I did not anticipate. Pure brass does have that smell and I did not consider that when purchasing. Smells like an old copper pipe.-The brass is heavy. When you drop the pen, it will most certainly damage the tip of the ink stick, making it unable to let any ink come out. That totally defeats the purpose of this pen when it can't put any ink on paper. At $3 per ink stick, dropping this pen gets expensive.
