Received a free set of Miya watercolor paints to review and it was so lovely! These colors are wonderful! [I'm not getting paid but I got the colors for free to review]. To be fair, I only used the materials from this set, plus a colored pencil for sketching. See photos for details. The colors are bright, very pigmented and transparent. They layer well and the colors of each layer remain visible in the end result. They are non-chalky and activate instantly on contact with a wet brush. As you run the brush over the paint to pick up more pigment, you end up with a gel-cream texture that looks like paint squeezed out of a tube. They are suitable for both flat washes and details. The quality is excellent for the price (around $18 at Revain). I would definitely recommend them to beginners looking for high quality paints that won't discourage them and experienced artists looking for a good paint set. and lightfastness information, although I believe the company can provide this. The palette consists of 18 colors, about the size of half a pot. They are built directly into the wells. There are 2 mixing zones: lid and check valve. The rear valve lies flat on the table for stability when mixing. The blend zones have a white matte finish, so there is no glare when evaluating colors. They get a little dirty but can be cleaned with a soapy brush (see photo). I just wish they could stay closed (maybe with magnets?) although a rubber band will do the job. By the way, I love the green color and the bird motif on the cover! The set includes 6 small sheets of watercolor paper and a thin water brush so you can start painting right away. I used one of these sheets and a water brush. The paper has a nice texture, survived 5-6 layers without much warping, even though I didn't tape it because I wanted to paint all the way to the edge. I would like a bigger size :) The brush had a thin tip, which came in handy for drawing details on a small piece of paper. To improve water control on the smallest details like the lining, I ended up taking out the water cylinder and just using the remaining water in the tip. The pallet and the paper bag are delivered in a plastic case. The bottom of the case can be used as a water glass for traditional brushes. The water brush won't fit in the box when filled with water, but actually if you remove the paper bag, unscrew the brush body and empty it, you can squeeze the brush into 2 parts. The carrying case and the container box that the whole paint set came in are just beautiful! All in all very recommendable! :)
