Only used once so far but I've done a direct comparison and it removes solids from my tank better than my regular siphon. Gravel during water changes, plus it's very easy to use and helps keep your aquarium clean between large water changes. It worked fine for picking up hard guppy poo in my 10" and 20" long tanks without additional filter media, but I might try adding a little to see how it works with smaller particles. The water was cloudy after my use, but not as cloudy as with a regular water change and siphon. My only gripe is that the plastic drain pipe that came with the box had an absolutely horrible chemical smell and I ended up leaving it outside for a while. a few days before it goes away. Maybe you can use it to change the water, but I definitely don't let it get into the aquarium water.
