Uncle Bill's website states, "Uncle Bill's wood chip grip is an American success story. We follow the Uncle Bill model, a quality American instrument that is still hand polished and sharpened just like Uncle Bill was 30 years ago." However, when I saw that my new tweezers didn't look like my old ones, I called, to get a clean spoon. The guy I spoke to told me their production completely changed twenty years ago. The guy I spoke to told me the tweezers would cost "forty dollars a piece" if they were still made the old way. It's not like this. They are cheaply stamped, poorly finished where it matters, at the top. They don't work like the old ones until you make a bevel and a dot on it. You can't say they're made the old way and also say they're $40 each if they're us. I don't appreciate the cheapening of my favorite survival tool, nor the deception about it. I keep them in protest and puncture and cut them myself which will surely take me a few hours bringing the cost of these tweezers to forty dollars a piece in terms of my time. So buy them when you need them. The guy claimed they hadn't thinned the metal over the years, but I'll be willing to swear my old pair were stiffer and less prone to lateral deflection. However. Like so much else, it's not what it used to be. I'd rather they maintain quality and raise prices as needed rather than lowering the price.
