I didn't use the included screws because they are so damn flimsy and short. Probably No. 6 or less and probably about an inch long. I screwed a 5/8" thick batten attached to a 2x4 side bracket, barely having to go through the batten. I think I used a #10 x 2" stainless steel bolt I had (I always buy one big pack of stainless steel screws if I need a different size and keep them all mixed in a jar), the head of the screw was a bit proud but I fixed it with a little black paint. Also, the screws provided are pan head screws and the Countersunk holes are for countersunk screws.
