I have a box turtle but I use it in my shed to warm and roast one of my cats. I took a large unused bird cage and laid it on its side so the open bottom looked like a large door, stuck one of those light bulbs into the metal shade you use for chickens and just set the shade on top of the cage. Cell. I put in some nice soft bedding and now my cat (who doesn't go in anymore because she's scared of our dog) stays warm now and I'm not afraid of a barn fire. (Because incandescent bulbs don't get hot enough to illuminate anything.) And it doesn't emit any light, so it's not a bright light overhead (my cat), just a heat source.
