I would give this 5 stars if it weren't for saying it's for small fish. I was missing a small piece of plastic with slots that keeps the fish from flying out of the spout. I made my own and used a fishing net to cover up a piece of plastic cut to the size of the holes in it. The baby guppies didn't make it through. The next morning, some of them swim in a large aquarium. I took them out before they were eaten. They didn't get through the discharge. You must have gone through where the entrance is. For larger fish to separate them this tank would be amazing. But I wouldn't risk the kids. Some have also mentioned a gurgling noise during use. I have it too. I just reduced the airflow and it was gone. I don't think water should be poured over it, just a small constant amount at a time so it doesn't have to be lifted. I like the way it circulates around the tank so the temperature and everything is constant and you don't have to have a grow box with holes floating around or on the side of the tank. But don't risk small fish if you want to keep them out of the aquarium. If it hadn't been for 5 stars.
