I bought this for a baby ball python in a 15 gallon glass tank. It really heats up! The glass it's attached to is too hot to touch at maximum heat. So I scaled it down a bit, making sure to put lots of bedding on top of that area. It has an adjustable dial. The dial does not show temperature. It's more like you gradually increase it until you reach your desired temperature. In any case, I rely on the thermometer in the tank. Too bad I didn't read the instructions before applying it with a sticky sheet. You really need to turn it on and let it warm up so it flattens out before applying it to the glass. I didn't and it was too wrinkled for the glue to apply properly. I put it on the side and now on the bottom (always outside the tank). Both paths generated a lot of heat. There isn't much of it. About half a sheet of paper. It's durable and obviously water-resistant. The plug and cord are also durable. I was concerned that if I bought a cheaper device I would have to worry about a fragile dial and cables that could be dangerous. This is not the case here. Eventually I will need another one to cover most of the tank and I will be buying another of this particular model. Outstanding quality at a low price.
