Review on PCTV Deluxe Tuner and Video, powered by Pinnacle, with USB 2.0 connectivity by Leroy Wolfe

Revainrating 1 out of 5

This is an awful product.

I bought a PCTV Deluxe Tuner with the expectation that it would be a decent upgrade to a PCTV USB2 Tuner that I have had for several years. I was wrong. Not only does it lag terribly in and out of no-capture mode, but most video settings are greyed out. I run a pretty decent machine that can handle almost anything thrown at it, with the exception of Oblivion on a high-end display. I run a minimum of apps in the background and keep my drivers up to date. After installing this disaster I rebooted as suggested, ran the test and got a clean health certificate. I tried cycling through my XBox 360 only to find an average lag of 7 seconds and to top it off the included software really hates dragging other windows onto it while it freezes and crashes. Also, it doesn't support 16:9, although some idiot left it in the video settings. Expand the viewport but leave the edges black, it's not "widescreen", awesome. What confuses me the most is that the PCTV USB2 works great, every aspect, input etc including the wide screen, that bullshit doesn't exist because it asks too much and delivers so little. If this product works for you, fine, but I don't need to build a system on junk that can't take full advantage of USB 2.0 data rates. If you need a decent PC tuner, use PCTV USB2 or another manufacturer. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Too silly
