Review on 🚽 Upgrade Your Toilet with the American Standard 3174105-0070A Champion Universal Replacement Flush Valve by Gilbert Cokky

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Rating updated. suitable for rough installations

We have an old 4" American Standard Champion toilet with what I'm sure is the original flush (a tall white plastic column that went up when you flushed the toilet). This block is a replacement for white center pillar blocks. American Standard no longer replaces gaskets on older flush valves. This block took approximately 40 minutes to install and ran with no problems or leaks. We will be monitoring it closely for a couple of days to ensure there are no leaks started. The old block flushed with almost two hands. The new block requires a lot less effort and uses less water! So far very happy with the purchase. UPDATE 10/20/2017 Well after having this new flush valve installed for a few hours, we noticed it was starting to leak. t! It probably took a few hours to get to the level. I h bute put some food coloring in the tank, waited about 30 minutes and i could see some going into the bowl. The first thought was that it was leaking because of the infamous blue damper. Many issues have been reported with this blue seal. I turned off the water, flushed the toilet (there was about 4 inches of water left in the tank since the flush valve is so high off the floor) and went to bed. Got up this morning and to my surprise the tank was empty. .So the blue gasket wasn't to blame, it was the gray rubber gasket between the flush valve and the bottom of the tank. Luckily I kept the old black neoprene gasket from the canister flush valve I just replaced. I removed the gray rubber gasket, installed a black neoprene gasket, and after waiting for hours there are still no leaks at all! I think the gray rubber gasket just couldn't seal the inside of the tank well enough (which is a bit rough compared to the outside of the tank). I called American Standard to see if they could source more black neoprene pads to have on hand and the woman I spoke to even though I had two heads. She couldn't understand. which patch I meant. This flush valve shows a black seal, not the gray one that mine came with. If you have one of these updated Champion flush valves installed and it's leaking, check the gray gasket at the bottom of the tank. Any reports of blue seal problems not going away could actually be due to gray seals licking water into the bowl.
