When my 25 year old multi cooker broke, I was looking for a new one. There are many of these on the market and not all of them have good reviews. I ended up choosing this one because it had the highest reviews, but it definitely wasn't the cheapest. I used it on the day I received it and I was happy with the result. I made short ribs - they cooked evenly (4 hours on high power) and were tender. I had to "come to terms" with the fact that it's a lot lighter than my old one. For some reason I mean "heavy" by "higher quality". What makes it a lot lighter is that the insert isn't ceramic. It's a type of coated aluminum that's easy to clean. As others have said, it's also smaller and round rather than oval, which limits what you can stuff inside. Not sure if it would be ideal for a large family for that reason. There are only two of us, sometimes four of us, and this will satisfy those needs. I was able to use it without reading the instructions - it's that simple. I know a lot of people these days use pressure cookers instead of slow cooking, but if you're old-fashioned like me I think you'll love this.
