This mattress pad is much better than I expected. I bought a mattress/spring package not long ago and it's pretty hard. About a month later, my back started to hurt badly. When I rolled onto my side, my back hurt. If I lay on my stomach my back would hurt. If I lay on my back, my back would hurt. I tossed and turned all night, and then my back hurt for about an hour after getting out of bed in the morning. I was looking to buy a brand new mattress, but my girlfriend suggested I just buy a memory foam topper and see if it works (and saves money). We only have him one day but he is amazing. I can lie on it and my back doesn't hurt at all. It's so soft and comfortable. And the smell of lavender is pleasant. It's like the smell of soapy lavender. It's pretty stubborn at first, but after a day it's already started to fade a bit (or I'm just getting used to it). So if you're worried the scent is too strong or you don't like it I wouldn't worry too much as it probably won't last long anyway. Take whatever is cheaper - with or without lavender. UPDATE: The funny thing is that while MY back pain is gone, my girlfriend first experienced back pain after sleeping on it one night. She was fine on the firm mattress we had before we bought the topper. However, the hard mattress killed me and now I'm fine and her back hurts from the mattress topper. I'm not sure if the difference we feel is because of our size. I'm 6ft 1in and 205lbs. She's 5'1" and weighs 103 pounds. At first I thought the taller you are the more pain points you might be taken away from. But I doubt size has anything to do with it. Another theory I thought of ", could have to do with how your back is aligned. Some people may feel worse on memory foam when a firm mattress supports their back well. Although it doesn't make much sense to me either. Perhaps that's the big difference between our firm one Mattress and our soft topper gives her back pain momentarily.I will try to remember to update this again when her back pain goes away in a week or two.For now I'm leaving this 5 stars.Because we bought it to alleviate a problem solve that i had and it completely solved my problem.
