Review on Accurate Temperature Control with Maverick Baker's Oven Thermometer by Kelly Johnson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Unreliable on/off switch but seems very accurate. wife hates.

This thermometer has been very useful for us in the kitchen. We rented and our landlord bought the cheapest Magic Chef propane stove / even he could. When set at 350F the oven heats up to 417 and goes down to 282. If we set it to 370F, it heats up to 388 and drops to 350. This device allows us to take more accurate readings based on temperature rather than just time. Unfortunately, the power button is incredibly finicky. If you want to turn it on, move the left switch up vertically. If we do that, nothing happens. You have to reset the millimeter switch and the screen will turn on. However, do not breathe on it! It will "reboot" during use and sometimes shut down completely. This behavior has existed since day one. When you use the temperature warning function and press the "+" button to increase the warning temperature, the system sometimes reboots. Overall I'm glad I have it, but it usually takes a minute or more to stick. My wife can't take this hassle most of the time and skips it.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • New competitors have appeared
