This mat removed the stain from out stained concrete floor

I was excited to get this mat for the stained concrete floor in my home office. After just over two months in our new house my office chair had begun to wear away at certain areas of the floor - about 12-15 small spots had were beginning to appear in the stain. I needed something to protect the floor! The mat arrived and I was glad that it was very pliable and I could still see the floor.Now a couple of weeks later my wife pointed out to me that she was glad I got the mat because there were a lot of spots on the floor. I said those are just air bubbles and I would lift it up and put it back down and that would be the end of that. BUT, NO! I lifted the mat and all over the bottom of the mat were tiny flecks of the stain from our new floor - hundreds of flecks. It looked awful.What chemical in the mat would take up stain like that?

After a couple days, the mat still won't lay flat. I'll use it as a drop cloth when painting.
