I had to tie 3 knots on the bungee to "shorten" it to 6, try tying knots at each end if you're wearing tennis shoes instead of boots or you'll feel those knots under your shoes. I permanently attached one side by squeezing the thin metal with pliers. I made the other hook a little smaller by squeezing it, but light enough to put on and take off. I run this under my boot and the heel of the boot holds the cord in place. It works so well that I haven't looked for a smaller bungee, but I've noticed some wear on the cord so you better start looking.
