Review on 📱 Optimized NeatReceipts Mobile Scanner and Digital Filing System for PC and Mac by Mike Steeg

I really wanted this product to be enjoyable and I wanted it to have the best chance of success. I have a consulting business, which means I travel a lot. In an ideal world, it would be a lot easier if I could automatically generate expense reports on the go instead of digging through a bunch of receipts and scanning them over the weekend. In order for it to actually perform 95% of its advertised functions, it MUST have access to the internet. After your image is scanned, it sends it to the "cloud” for processing and then sends back the processed image. Is all free space around the receipt cut off? nope Does it recognize all fields in the document accurately? nope Of course you can enter all the data manually, but then what's the point of a product? Can I scan a receipt without an internet connection? Sure, but the software can't handle it. What really kills this product is its slow performance. This may be a subjective statement, but let me put it into perspective. I can manually scan a receipt with my 8 year old HP scanner, remove all white space and enter the data into Excel in LESS than it takes for Neat's scanner/software to process the image. again. So what's the point of keeping the product? I had to call their tech support because my registration process failed due to a previous attempt to use their software with my HP scanner (which I found out was unsupported) prior to actually purchasing the Neat combo scanner. It's almost impossible to actually get in touch with a person, but after 20-30 minutes of "waiting" I got in touch with someone and they were finally able to fix the situation at the back. As a warning to others: YOU CANNOT USE THIS PRODUCT IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER IT! It requires an internet connection. So if you're on the go and don't have internet access for some reason, you're in trouble. I ended up sending the scanner back as it didn't really live up to the hype or my expectations. I'm giving this product a 2 because it "kinda" works. it just doesn't work very well. If you are an advanced user, you'd better buy a Fujitsu portable scanner and use it with Adobe Acrobat. when you really MUST scan everything. Of course it's more expensive, but time is money. I ended up using Shoeboxed to photograph my receipts. They take care of all the manual data entry. The reports aren't as reliable as we'd like, but they're 100 times more functional than Neat's solution. I made this review as objective as possible, I hope it will be useful to someone. The Neat product may have value to some, but it doesn't deliver the business value I needed.
