It usually needs to be connected to a car, but can also be powered by a 9V battery!
needed something to light up our license plate as we had a bike rack that got in the way of the license plate. Instead of attaching it to my car's wiring, I soldered the switch to a 9 volt battery and attached the wires to this LED block and then sealed it with hot glue. This created a reliable light for the short period we needed something like this so I'm glad I made the purchase. I wouldn't recommend using it this way but thought I'd share how I've used this product.
