I tried diamond blades to sharpen my Spartan Blades fixed knives which were made from CPM S35VN steel and hardened to 58-60 HRC and the diamonds immediately wore off the blades. This stone is more aggressive than diamond plates and will not wear out. Use with oil ONLY. I recommend mineral oil and clean it regularly with WD40. The course side is for serious repairs only, use the thin side for sharpening. Although it is #320 grit, it will not cut through your knives. I get a very good jagged edge, with no bevels that look like they were put on a low grit bench grinder. I couldn't be happier.
