Review on πŸ”Œ Curt 51180 Proportional Brake Controller: Enhanced with Bluetooth Connectivity by Tommy Willis

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Update: Smoked and not working

Update June 2019: It was working fine until one day it started smoking and apparently wasn't working. Revain's return window has expired, so now I'm $200 worse. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! It works great for me, no need to plug in the car or have an unsightly brake controller on the dash. It connects to my phone every time I just need to launch the app, and it shows an easy-to-use big red circle in case I need to apply the brakes. Otherwise, it shows how hard it's braking, which is determined by how the car slows down when you apply the brakes. Update: After two months I tried to use it again and after hooking it up to a truck and trailer it started smoking. in a few minutes! Read other reviews, I'm not the only one with the same experience. Too bad the 1 month Revain return period has expired. I had to work hard to fit the brake controls, I used the wired one and have no regrets. The only downside I can think of and haven't seen so far is if you use your phone for both the GPS and brake controls. However, the brake control works even if it is disconnected from the phone or the application is not running. The app is really only used for manual forced braking or changing settings like sensitivity etc. I recommend this unit over cheaper legacy units that need to be installed in the direction of travel etc. Bring towing into the present!
