This canopy is a great and economical light source for planted aquariums. The medium version of this canopy can accommodate 3 compact fluorescent lamps of up to 26W each. This is the light output equivalent to a 300W incandescent lamp. If you buy these 6500 Kelvin light bulbs (like the ones I have and they work well :[.]) you will have a great light source for planted aquariums at a very reasonable price. I have two of these and have had one for over a year - I have a very healthy, densely planted 56 gallon aquarium that thrives with this light source - even in 24" water depth. Please note that the medium version of this canopy has two Has light switch, one for the center port and the second. Also note that for use with an aquarium you must have a full glass cover between it and the water - this mount is NOT suitable for exposure to moisture.
