A great way to stream audio from Roku and FireStick HDMI ports to older non-HDMI receivers. It transmits digital signals from HDMI to optical SPDIF and converts them into a 2-channel analog signal. Dolby 9.1 or 7.1 will not be down converted to 5.1 as this process is limited to devices that only have Dolby certified native 7.1 capabilities. But if the source is 5.1, then the device will also output 5.1. Most app channels on Roku no longer air in 5.1 DD and now only use 7.1 Dolby Digital Plus, so your 5.1 receivers can't use Dolby Digital in 5.1 mode. But in this case it defaults to Dolby 2.0 and will still send 2-channel audio to a non-DD+ receiver. However, this is a very convenient way to split audio from a Roku device to a receiver that can't handle HDMI. All in all a very useful device, especially for the price.
