I use this for leveling rocks. So far, so good. I spent 3 weeks smoothing out the black translucent Arkansas stone or what the oldtimers called the blue-black Arch stone. The hardest rock imaginable and it went through without exploding. I also used Atoma 400 and 800. So far they all work fine. I don't use them for sharpening, just straightening, so I can't comment on how well they sharpen steel.
