I WORK IN A COURIER DELIVERY AND USUALLY DO LONG ROADS IN RURAL PANSILVAN AREAS. OTHER DRIVERS KNOW DEER ON THEIR TRACKS. ON SOME OF MY TRACKS HAVE LOTS OF DEER NEAR A ROAD OR INTERACTION, I ALSO STARTED A VERY LARGE BEAR RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD! I PURCHASED A HOPKINS DEER HAZARD ALERT THAT WAS PRETTY EASY TO INSTALL. THERE IS A SWITCH ON THE UNIT THAT I ACTIVATE WHEN I AM IN SUBURBAN/RURAL AREAS. THE FIRST DAY, I USE THE ALERT, I CLOSED THE TURN AND THERE WERE ABOUT 6 DEER IN THE FIELD AHEAD, THE DEER IMMEDIATELY TURNED AND RUN. OTHER EXAMPLES HAD SIMILAR RESULTS, NEAR MY HOUSE WE HAVE MANY LIVE DEER, A WARNING SOMETHING WILL SCARE THE YOUNG DEER MORE, THE OLD DEER SEEM TO LOOK AND FREEZE OR RUN. WHAT I BELIEVE ALERT WORKS BETTER AT LOW SPEEDS, I AM NOT SURE THAT ALERT WILL BE AS EFFECTIVE AT 55 OR 60 MPH. THE BEST PREVENTION IS TO SLOW DOWN, BE CAREFUL AND USE HIGHLIGHTS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I BELIEVE THIS WARNING BUT DON'T EXPECT DEER TO PART THE ROAD LIKE MOSES PART THE SEA.
