Aquarium LED Lighting Timer/Dimmer Selection

Like many others I was looking for a simple LED lighting control to emulate the sunrise and sunset functions so as not to startle the fish with sudden on/off switching. There are several LED aquarium lighting controls on the market. I've been using the NICREW single channel LED lighting controller for years with no issues other than having to reset the clock in the event of a power outage. I bought this more expensive S2 PRO controller mainly because it claims to remember the current time setting when the power is turned off. The S2-PRO and NICREW controllers work properly once you take the time to learn how to code (as others have pointed out, product reviews and YouTube videos help). Both controllers can easily support 2 full up and down cycles which is my preference; a short cycle for morning top dressing and a main cycle for planting and observation. I've only had the S2-PRO for a short time, so I can't comment on its reliability. Here are some of the pros and cons as I see it. S2-PRO Advantages: * Keeps the current time during a brief power outage * Flexible sunrise and sunset speed through time spacing. Cons of S2-PRO: * Almost twice the price * Very poor manual (2" x 3.5" on the card) * Virtually no NICREW support Pros: * Reasonable price * Complete user manual with programming examples * Good NICREW technical Support Cons: * You have to reset the clock when the power is off, just like your microwave oven ;) * Limited (15min/30min) up and down speed if that's a problem.

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Crumpled
