I am not a professional photographer; at best from beginner to amateur. This is the first real lens I've ever owned and I'm using it on a Canon T5i which I bought last year, my first DSLR. As part of my job I shoot around 250-300 shots a week so a solid camera body and lens is essential. This lens delivers significantly better image quality than the lens that came with the T5i, especially when compared to the good image quality of my old Canon PowerShot. Colors are bright and not that flat; focus is sharper. The wide-angle capability allows me to photograph small areas realistically and I don't notice any barrel distortion down to around 13-10mm. This is amazing as I only use this short focal length in tight spaces; For indoor photography I usually play with 14mm to 18mm and more for street photography. Do not uncover or remove this lens; there is a learning curve. It took me over a month to get used to it. You can always cheat and use the automatic camera setting, but you're really missing out. I love working with this lens so much I can't wait to get started. And I've learned more about photography with this lens than ever before. There was a problem. The auto focus failed after about a month of continuous use and I had to take the lens to a Canon Service Center in my city. Within two weeks, Canon brought back a lens with a brand new autofocus motor. It's working like clockwork again. I hope this is finally fixed. I read somewhere that the auto focus on this particular lens was a problem for others. Maybe I should learn to focus manually and use autofocus less. A piece of advice: it's a heavy lens and it's bigger than you think. Remove the neck strap and take the hand strap.
