You have to tinker, the secondary coil was inefficient and cheap. LEDs

This Tesla coil can be tricky. After we reassembled it it wouldn't fire and the secondary coil failed. We had a spare secondary coil from another Tesla coil which luckily broke, but if you don't have a spare coil and yours has failed you can't expect it to work for you. The first day of work on it after the coil stopped sparking we thought it might be a red LED which apparently wasn't soldered correctly (minor mistake) so it had to be removed and placed in the right direction. It broke trying to do this so I had to buy a new red LED. So we removed the red LED and left it without an LED for a while. I noticed that after a while the arcs got smaller and it drew tons of power from the power supply, which I didn't like that much. Maximum about 2 amps. The other one we have draws 1 amp or 0.80 amp. Then we finally decided to put a new red LED on top and the arcs stayed the same size. Finally we put the fans on the radiators. after working on it later everything got ready and now it is fully functional! Plays music, lights up neon and neon lights and does what it's supposed to. It's not something I'd recommend for younger kids, but for kids 14+ it's just great. I'm just glad it worked and I didn't have to send it back! I give it 2 stars because of the secondary coil and the cheap LED that breaks when you try to desolder it. And you must also have electronics experience if you do this.

  • Electronics
Cons
  • Big and chunky
