I grew up with 12 to 14 cube aluminum ice trays. When I ordered the SS 18 Cube stainless steel tray I thought stainless steel would be better. boy was i wrong! I will NEVER buy a three tier metal ice tray or stainless steel ice tray again! Pulling out the middle row of cubes is next to impossible unless you use a knife to knock them out! Stainless steel also seems to have an affinity for ice and bonds with ice, unlike aluminum which separates comparatively easily (I remember the last time I used aluminum trays was 40 years ago). Note. I stopped using aluminum trays because they didn't fit in my small freezer back then. And YES, you need to run the metal trays under water for the ice to come off normally, whether it's aluminum or not. Well, I'm sending this tray back. Unfortunately, it looks like almost every metal tray doesn't have three rows. I gotta get back to Rubbermaid's plastic trays. Don't waste your money buying a three tier stainless steel ice cube tray.
