I am using a few generations of Zywall. The one that replaced this Fortigate was the feature-packed Zywall USG50. It was extremely difficult to set up and had some unreliable bugs. For example, we can restore a configuration and it only stops responding to one of the static WAN IPs after about 3 hours. We restored the same configuration - no changes, and sometimes the problem went away, sometimes not. But the last straw was throughput. This remote location was supposed to get 60 Mbps, but the best we've seen was 50. We blamed the cable company for it. But then we increased the bandwidth to 110, and it was still 50. USG 50 is rated at 100Mbps, but when we plugged the laptop directly into the modem, we saw 112. Horror. We plugged in the Fortigate and were only able to ping one of our 4 static WAN IP addresses. We checked the configuration three times and couldn't figure it out, so we wrote a ticket in Foritnet. The next morning we had an answer to which we acted. Within 30 minutes we had another reply to which we acted as well. Then my phone rang; It was a Fortinet tech support engineer who called me directly to resolve the issue. Yes, 2018! diagnosed 10 minutes; Restart your cable modem (thanks Shane). brain spasm on my part; the cable modem's ARP cache had the old firewall's MAC addresses. Once we did that, everything worked great - we got the configuration right. When running a speed test, there was absolutely no change in our speed readings from a direct connection to a cable modem; 112 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. This device is rated at 950 Mbps, so it has a long range. Why not use this company's products with great performance and unparalleled support?
