From what I remember cast iron soap was once a basic dishwashing liquid like Dawn or Palmolive and a good steel wool soap like SOS to combat those stubborn bits of food, burnt or baked in some form! Also, you had to use hot water and let it soak for hours or days! I've been doing this for years and it got so horrible I just cleverly destroyed my cast irons! Just do these oh no no! So I just started ordering a new set of special cast iron soap and oil! Simply the best! Just make sure you dry them all with your hands and add the cast iron oil! WORLD!
