So my 2002 Jeep GC had constant trouble turning the key in the ignition. Tired of the hammer method and knew I needed a transponder key but didn't want to spend money dialing and reprogramming. Now with this particular lock cylinder I have 2 black ignition keys and the original gray transponder key. You can take your gray remote control key and tape it or zip it up near the lock cylinder, but I only have one and I still need it to open the doors. So when I start, I just put the gray key in the ignition and that's it. This lock cylinder took five minutes to install. I removed the casing around the steering wheel with a screw at the bottom. Flathead screwdriver to remove the side clips and then simply turn the key to the right before it fires and use the screwdriver to push the tab under the original lock barrel and wiggle a bit and the barrel will slide out. Take a new one, insert the key provided, turn it to the on position and insert the new lock cylinder. Ready. I think you could very well flip a new cylinder, but I'm not 100% sure about this process. It's not a smooth twist anyway, but from what I've heard it gets easier after repeated use. All in all a very inexpensive repair. Super happy.
