At first I wasn't sure if it was 100% waterproof but now I'm sure. I recently bought a new foam mattress for my disabled son who has seizures and sometimes loses his bodily functions. I wanted to protect my mattress just in case, so I bought this protector. That same night I put it on his mattress, he was sure he was having a seizure and he wet the bed and to my surprise it didn't penetrate the mattress, didn't even get wet. I put it in the wash and it came out fine. It didn't affect the properties of the memory foam mattress because it stretches with it, which is why I'm amazed it's still waterproof. It doesn't shift, swell or move like some treads. It fits a mattress of almost any height.
