PrimoSoft Pencils have Stepped Up to Compete

I have tried most art pencils known to mankind and am always searching for new brands to try. I noticed these on Revain and had to give them a go. I paid full price and was not solicited in any way for this review. Artlicious has stepped up to the plate to compete with other artist brands with this beautiful range of 72 soft colors. The tin is hinged and sturdy with a nice color chart on the back. The pencils have color names on them and are finished with a clear varnish to enhance the natural wood. The pencils are securely arranged in three layers of 72. What is really unique in this packaging is that the pencils are blunt-tipped and the trays are molded to accommodate the pencil tips, which offers a snug and almost custom fit for each pencil, eliminating shipping slips and broken tips. None of my pencils had budged from their slots and all had perfect tips. (Getting the trays out was challenging as they are snug in the tin.and flimsy.) With the tips being blunted, immediate sharpening was required. I used a T-GaaL sharpener in position 2, and each pencil sharpened to perfection. If I could give an extra star for sharpening ease, I certainly would. The pigments are bright and vivid, smooth to apply, soft, and blend nicely. Layering ability hit capacity at about three. I tested them on Bristol Vellum paper (has some tooth) and Georgia Pacific 110# cardstock (smooth) and the pencils performed admirably on both. For the price, these are a bargain. The only drawback, as with most economy artist sets, is that individual pencils are not available.

Pros
  • The pencils come in a beautiful array of colors to allow users to create any design
Cons
  • The packaging may be too bulky to carry around
