Toaks vs. Snow Peak Comparison

Toaks and Snow Peak are two of the leading brands of titanium camping cookware sets so I bought both to compare. Selection. The Toaks set includes a knife not found in Snow Peak. I don't see that as a plus for Toaks because a knife is no substitute for one that can slice and dice. Either way, you'll need to carry another knife, so the Toaks knife is just an extra knife to swipe. In terms of versatility, my favorite outdoor knife is the iconic Little Vicky knife (a 3-1/4-inch Victorinox paring knife) with a serrated edge. It weighs 0.6 ounces. The Snow Peak set comes with a handy nylon case, which is not good household cutlery. Toaks have dumb slots cut into the handles (to save 0.1 grams?) making cleaning difficult. I have noticed that the toes of the Toaks bend quite easily. The teeth of the Snow Peak fork are noticeably stiffer, which I take as a sign of higher quality material. Snow Peak is made in Japan, Toaks is made in China. The finish on Snow Peak is significantly better than Toaks. All edges are smooth, while on Toaks the edges are sharp and rough in places with visible tool marks. Toaks cookware features polished heads with matte handles. All Snow Peak cookware is matte finish. I thought the matte finish might feel rough in the mouth, but it's not, as the finish is matte but very smooth. Value. The Toaks set costs a few dollars less and includes a knife. However, the Snow Peak set is more premium and includes a case. Unless you really need a titanium butter knife, I think the Snow Peak set is your best bet. Conclusion. If you decide to use separate titanium cookware, I would recommend the Snow Peak set due to the higher quality. But given that, I'm not sure if this is the ideal use case. For real ultralight hiking you can save a few grams with a titanium fork. And for car camping, I think ordinary 18-10 grade stainless steel tableware is more suitable for you.
