I had my third defroster power resistor for fan speed control in my truck. The motor drew over 30 amps and the stock power resistor was replaced in a week or two. The resistors buckled and broke, releasing insulating "sand" all over my truck's carpet. I tried installing a power resistor with another (analogue) speed controller - this took about 2-3 weeks before it started smoking. The amperage specifications for this controller were "pretty optimistic". The seller gave me the money back. I decided to replace the analog controller with this controller. I figured a PWM controller like this would handle high currents and harsh environments better. I was right. I built a PCB box, installed it in the dashboard and connected the wires. I couldn't be happier. It doesn't even get hot at low or high fan speeds. I've been using it daily for almost a year. The next step is to install a speed control potentiometer in my dash where the old fan speed knob used to be.
