Quality paint, paper and brushes make a world of difference

I'm another artist who was born in quarantine, although my passion started just before quarantine. In the 9 months that I have been painting I have learned the following: 1. The quality of your materials is GREAT.2. If you keep using poor quality products, you will be disappointed.3. There are a large number of very talented people on YouTube willing to teach you how to draw. There is no such thing as being an artist. This is a 100% TRAINABLE SKILL! Painting watercolor is so much fun! In terms of product quality, you need the following: 1. Decent color. This Windsor and Newton-Cotman color is great to start with. Buy the set that best suits your budget. I have 24 and that's more than enough. Play with them to learn how to adjust colors.2. Ordinary paper. The Canson XL is great for everyday practice and is easy to find here and at craft stores. After a little practice, you'll find 140lb 100% cotton watercolor paper to try and use for special projects. Good brushes are also important and you don't need that many. The included cotman brush is not very good. I only use it to lift a plastic tray. So invest in a pair of $5-$10 brushes. Discover the different types of combs. Quality synthetic brushes are great and affordable. My favorites are Princeton Aqua Elite (synthetic Kolinsky Sable) for detail and Princeton Neptune (synthetic Squirrel) for looser patterns. Round 6, round 2 and maybe a wash brush is all you need. Never store your brushes in water and always rinse them well. Now a review of these colors. As said, this is a great color for beginners. Do yourself a favor and create a color chart. See what it's like to mix Intense Phthalo Blue and Alizarin Crimson Hue (a beautiful dark purple). Viridian Hue too light green? Add some burnt umber to soften it. To be honest, buying more than 24 colors can be a bit overwhelming. Half the fun is learning how to mix colors and how to get the exact shade of cyan you want. Just try to erase them with a magic eraser or dish brush. Wet the colors to activate them and use the side of the brush to pick up the color and apply it to the blended area. And just enjoy it!
