I'm not a Picasso and that's okay!

Listen up if you like watercolor because month 3 of lockdown has turned month 9 and you need a hobby that doesn't involve a screen, zoom call or get out command (hello, wildfires many?) , this set is AMAZING. I had no trouble at all with that whole "color moving" thing that other people mention. Maybe I'm not painting aggressively enough, because they do crumble in the pans, but not so much that they disappear entirely. Also, I usually carry it in my backpack instead of throwing it around the…

Overall Sleek Panset

Overall this is a good watercolor set for beginners and could be a good travel set. I have one with 24 colors and they come with a #3 pointed brush/eyeliner, 2 mixing bowls and 2 more slots (up to 8 extra bowls or you can put in about three 8ml tubes. The colors are vibrant with good pigmentation and with varying opacity/translucency.I did a color swatch and some of the colors were a bit grainy and didn't fill well.I compared the Viridium shade between the shell and the tube and the tube gives…

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • No car

Great color, not very good coverage.

I love, love the colors and finish, but the finish on this case is pretty terrible. First of all, once the paints are taken out of their packaging, they don't fit properly in the holder, so they flap around when you try to paint. Not to mention the paints just fall straight out of the pans, but I fixed that by putting a few drops of water under the paint in the pan, which basically works. There is room for two more trays / 8 more half trays but for some weird reason they don't provide the…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

WINsor-Newton Quality, Cotman Price

I was surprised and delighted that the set included a beautiful #3 Cotman watercolor brush. Thin tip with no broken hairs, perfect train! Cotman uses lower cost pigments that mimic the colors of professional paints. This can make a difference when you feel you need the best on the market. I found the colors acceptable on many levels; Clean processing, shiny with depth nuances depending on the pigment concentration in the water. Opaque colors are indicated on the small chart included with the…

Pros
  • Uses the PLUS cartridge system for high reliability and versatility.

Quality paint, paper and brushes make a world of difference

I'm another artist who was born in quarantine, although my passion started just before quarantine. In the 9 months that I have been painting I have learned the following: 1. The quality of your materials is GREAT.2. If you keep using poor quality products, you will be disappointed.3. There are a large number of very talented people on YouTube willing to teach you how to draw. There is no such thing as being an artist. This is a 100% TRAINABLE SKILL! Painting watercolor is so much fun! In terms…

Student Review - Colours, Usability, Handling of the Shell

first, I am a beginner and I recommend it to other beginners. I've had this set for several months now. Before that I used pipes and halves from a family member. I had to get used to the higher pigmentation and brightness. They dried darker than I expected from my other art supplies. (This was user error, but I thought I'd mention this to other people just starting out with the kit.) I sampled the paint very thickly at first, and then sampled wet-on-wet to at least hint at the gradient and…

Pros
  • The Kotman watercolor has good transparency, excellent color strength and good processing properties.
Cons
  • You could choose a newer model
