Disclaimer! I purposely use it in such a way that mfr says no! I am not advocating anything, just sharing my experience. Do not do that. First my 1 complaint. It doesn't have the "easy-to-clean lid" like the one my mom got. However, it is simpler than the old-style automatic seal. Don't be silly and this works great for hot tea.
