The metal is too thin and the forefoot flexes too much making it difficult to get the right tone when shuffling or any movement that involves the ball of your foot. It was my first tap dance lesson, so I had a lot of problems. But my teacher tried them on when I complained and although she noticed the problem too, she was able to get it to work, so I guess they're only good for professionals. I wouldn't advise beginners to buy these because they add an extra layer of combat to the learning process.
