I have had a Nikon Coolpix P1 digital camera for over a year now. This was my first digital camera and I am very happy with its performance. Being from Florida I should mention that my P1 held up well in the rain, wind and fog too! The Coolpix P1 has 16 different modes (and more additional sub-modes!) for quick image capture. There's also an AUTO mode with smart flash and self-timer options for quick shots (at 14,000 feet just before skydiving, or to capture Shamu's late-night antics :)). Some of the coolest features on this camera include a gorgeous 2.5-inch LCD screen, stunning 8-megapixel clarity, built-in red-eye removal, D-Lighting, and video recording. These features easily compensate for the comparatively smaller optical zoom (the P1 has a 3.5x zoom Nikkor lens with 4x digital zoom). Note that this 3.5x lens is what makes the P1 so compact and small. When I opened the package I was amazed at the size of this camera and the many features it contained. The P1 has excellent video and audio recording capabilities. I've experimented with Panorama, Sport and Night modes and got great results. Photos come out crisp and clear, and there's almost no blur if you're using the right mode. My Wi-Fi setup was smooth and easy (I should mention a CS degree helps) and the transfer speeds were great. (Note, however, that using Wi-Fi will drain the battery excessively quickly.) Nikon now has several new options in its Coolpix P range. They have improved features such as eVR (Vibration Reduction Capability in P3) and improved image quality. However, the P1 delivers consistent performance, demonstrating exemplary performance, unrivaled image quality and ease of use. 5 STARS Thank you Nikon!ps: I recommend purchasing the additional battery pack Nikon EN-EL8 Li-ion battery for P1, P2, S1 and S3 digital cameras and two 1GB high speed SD cards for long distance travel. Happy photography!
