Review on HGST Ultrastar 7K4000 4TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5inch Internal Hard Drive - Ideal Storage Solution for NAS, Desktop PC/Mac, Surveillance, CCTV DVR - 5 Year Warranty (Renewed) by Andre Brignac

Sluggish hard drive that heats up and makes a lot of noise. But it works :)

My WD Elements drive is keeping up with these drives. I measured 53 degrees Celsius while running the HD Tune Pro Read and Verify test on the entire drive in an outdoor dock. Maybe some people can post their numbers to compare with my HD Tune trial. I think these discs are outdated as they are marked as discontinued on the website. I will say that they have no bad sectors or, more likely, all bad sectors have already been replaced with firmware from the spare area of the hard drive. I will be using these drives in Raid 0 for security cameras. I posted HD Tune Pro Baseline tests on two purchased drives and an NVME SSD to see the huge difference in speed. I think these drives were most likely used in RAID arrays in some sort of massive data storage since consumer drives are usually much quieter and run with less cooling. In terms of temperatures, I hit 53C on these drives when testing sequential reads. Hard drive temperatures above 45°C resulted in higher failure rates Temperatures below 25°C also resulted in higher failure rates Older hard drives (3 years and older) were much more prone to failure when their average temperature was 40°C and above
